What does this WhatsApp link generator do?
It turns your phone number into a WhatsApp click to chat link, the https://wa.me/ address that opens a chat with you when someone taps it. WhatsApp’s click to chat help page says the person does not need your number saved in their phone, and the link opens on phones as well as on WhatsApp Web. You can add a message that is already typed when the chat opens, then copy the link, download a QR code of it, or copy a ready HTML button for your website.
The tool is built for Pakistani numbers first. You can type the number the way it is printed on your visiting card, such as 0300 1234567 or 0300-1234567, and the tool rewrites it in the international format WhatsApp asks for.
How do you use it?
- Leave the country on Pakistan (+92), or pick another country from the list.
- Type your WhatsApp number in any common format. The box under the field confirms the number or explains what is wrong with it.
- Optional: type the message the customer starts with, or tap one of the samples (price inquiry, booking, Roman Urdu or Urdu).
- Press Copy link to copy it, or Test link to open it in a new tab and check that the chat opens with your number.
- Press Download PNG to save the QR code for print or social media.
- For your website, set the button text, tick the floating option if you want it fixed in the corner, and press Copy HTML.
Which number formats does it accept?
WhatsApp’s rule is short: use the full number in international format and leave out any zeros, brackets, dashes and the plus sign. In Pakistan that means the country code 92 followed by the number without its first 0. The tool does this for you:
| You type | The link uses | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| 0300 1234567 | 923001234567 | The 0 is dropped and 92 is added |
| 0300-1234567 | 923001234567 | The dash is removed as well |
| +92 300 1234567 | 923001234567 | The plus sign and spaces are removed |
| 0092 300 1234567 | 923001234567 | The 00 international prefix is removed |
| 92 0300 1234567 | 923001234567 | The extra 0 after 92 is removed |
| 300 1234567 | 923001234567 | 92 is added |
The check follows the national numbering plan that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority filed with the ITU: a Pakistani mobile number has 10 digits after the country code, a 3 followed by 9 more digits, and 0 is the prefix used only for calls inside Pakistan. If you type fewer or more digits, the tool tells you how many it counted. Digits typed on an Urdu keyboard, such as ۰۳۰۰ for 0300, are read as normal digits.
A landline such as 042 3576 1234 gets a warning instead of an error. WhatsApp says on its WhatsApp Business registration page that a landline can only be registered on the WhatsApp Business app, so the link works only if that landline is on WhatsApp Business. UAN numbers (111) and toll-free numbers (0800) are rejected, because WhatsApp lists both as numbers that cannot be registered.
For other countries, choose the country first and type the number as it is dialled there. The tool removes the leading 0 and adds the country code. A number that starts with + is used as you typed it, apart from a 0 straight after a country code in the list, which is removed.
How does the pre-filled message work?
WhatsApp adds the message with ?text= after the number and asks for the text to be URL-encoded. The tool uses the browser’s own encodeURIComponent function, so a space becomes %20, a new line becomes %0A and an & becomes %26. Without that step, a character such as & can cut your message short.
Urdu works the same way. Each Urdu letter is stored as two bytes, so it turns into two codes in the link: سلام becomes %D8%B3%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85. The link looks long, but WhatsApp shows the customer the original Urdu text. The counter under the message shows the length before and after encoding.
The message is not sent by itself. WhatsApp places it in the text field of the chat, and the customer presses send. If you leave the number empty and only type a message, the tool makes a share link (https://wa.me/?text=); WhatsApp then asks the person to choose which contact receives it.
How should you use the QR code?
The PNG is about 1,000 pixels wide with a white border around the code. Keep that border when you place the code on a design, so it stands apart from the background. Scan it with the phone’s camera app or Google Lens: WhatsApp’s own help page notes that the WhatsApp camera can only scan official WhatsApp QR codes. A short message gives a simpler code that scans more easily when printed small, so test a printed copy before you print many. The code is drawn in your browser by the open-source qrcode-generator library (MIT license).
If you use the WhatsApp Business app, the app has its own short link and QR code (Tools, then Short link), and you can attach a default message to it. You can reset that code later, which stops the old one working. A QR code from this tool always points to your number, so it keeps working as long as the number is on WhatsApp.
How do you add the WhatsApp button to your website?
Copy the HTML and paste it into a Custom HTML block in WordPress, a footer widget, or any page builder element that accepts HTML. The button is a plain link with inline styles: green background, white text and a contrast ratio that passes WCAG AA. Tick the floating option to keep it in the bottom-right corner while visitors scroll. The preview shows how it looks with your text.
WhatsApp also offers official “Chat on WhatsApp” button images. Its click to chat page says to use them unchanged and that they are only available in English. If you want a button built into your theme with tracking, our website development team can add it.
Is my number sent anywhere?
No. The link, the QR code and the HTML are made in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to our server. The tool remembers your last entries in your browser’s own storage so the form is filled in next time you open it. WhatsApp only receives the link when you or a customer opens it.
